Mumbai boasts a generally robust utility infrastructure compared to the rest of the country. Electricity is largely privatized and highly reliable, provided by Tata Power, Adani Electricity, and the BEST undertaking. Water is supplied by the BMC, pumped from several lakes located in the northern suburbs and neighboring districts, though equitable distribution remains a challenge.
The city has extensive broadband and cellular networks, with 4G and 5G connectivity available universally via providers like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi). The city's sewage and drainage systems—many dating back to the British era—are currently undergoing massive overhauls to combat the annual monsoon flooding.
