Public transit within the city is facilitated by the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses, private minibuses, and auto-rickshaws. Recently, a fleet of electric buses was introduced under the Srinagar Smart City initiative. A highly anticipated railway link—the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL)—is nearing completion and will connect the Kashmir Valley to the Indian railway network. Locally, *shikaras* (traditional wooden boats) are widely used for transport across the city's lakes.
