Trincomalee is well connected to the rest of Sri Lanka by multiple modes of transport. The A4, A6, and A12 national highways link the city to Colombo, Kurunegala, and Anuradhapura, respectively. The Trincomalee Railway Line offers direct daily train services, including sleeper trains, connecting the local terminus to Colombo Fort.
Public transit is largely served by the extensive Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and private bus networks. China Bay Airport serves as a Sri Lanka Air Force base but also accommodates domestic civilian flights. The Port of Trincomalee is primarily used for cargo and industry, though it occasionally hosts cruise ships. For local transit, auto-rickshaws (tuk-tuks) are ubiquitous, alongside standard taxi services and a growing network of bicycle and scooter rentals for tourists.
