Colombo boasts the most advanced infrastructure in Sri Lanka. Electricity is reliably supplied by the state-owned Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), and the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) provides piped water and sewage management.
Telecommunications infrastructure is robust, with widespread 4G and growing 5G cellular coverage provided by multiple network operators. High-speed fiber-optic broadband is readily available for commercial and residential use. The city is currently undergoing significant subterranean infrastructure upgrades, particularly in the new Port City area, which is being built as a "smart city" with state-of-the-art utility, data, and waste management grids.
