Infrastructure

Haridwar’s infrastructure is a mix of heritage engineering and modern utilities. The defining infrastructural feature is the Upper Ganges Canal system, a marvel of 19th-century engineering that regulates the river's flow through the city.

Electricity is supplied by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), with relatively stable supply bolstered by local hydroelectric and gas-based power generation. Water and sewage management are handled by the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan, which has undertaken numerous projects under the "Namami Gange" initiative to build modern sewage treatment plants (STPs) to prevent river pollution. The city boasts excellent telecom infrastructure, with widespread 4G and growing 5G coverage provided by major national carriers, alongside reliable broadband services.
