Haridwar is governed by the Haridwar Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam Haridwar), which is responsible for the city's civic infrastructure, sanitation, property tax collection, and maintenance of local roads and ghats. The corporation is headed by a Mayor, who is elected by the public, alongside ward corporators representing various neighborhoods.
As the headquarters of the Haridwar district, the city also hosts the offices of the District Magistrate and other district-level administrative, police, and judicial officials. At the state and national levels, Haridwar is represented by Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha, and it anchors the Haridwar Lok Sabha constituency, electing a Member of Parliament to the central government in New Delhi.
