Agriculture

While Haridwar city is urbanized, the surrounding Haridwar district lies on the fertile Indo-Gangetic plains, making it the agricultural powerhouse of Uttarakhand. The district produces abundant yields of wheat, paddy (rice), sugarcane, and mustard.

Irrigation is highly developed, drawing heavily from the Upper Ganges Canal system, which ensures year-round water supply for farming. Sugarcane is a particularly vital cash crop, supporting several local sugar mills. Additionally, the region is seeing a steady increase in organic farming, medicinal plant cultivation, and floriculture, driven in part by the demand from the local Ayurvedic pharmaceutical industry.
