Weather & climate

Dehradun experiences a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification *Cwa*), heavily influenced by its elevation and proximity to the Himalayas. The year is divided into three primary seasons: summer, monsoon, and winter.

Summers (March to June) are warm to hot, with average high temperatures ranging from 30°C to 36°C (86°F to 97°F), though evenings remain relatively pleasant. The monsoon season (July to September) brings heavy, sustained rainfall, rejuvenating the local forests but occasionally causing waterlogging and minor landslides in the surrounding hills. Winters (December to February) are crisp and cold, with temperatures often dropping to 3°C to 5°C (37°F to 41°F) at night. While Dehradun itself rarely sees snow, the nearby peaks of Mussoorie frequently receive snowfall, bringing icy winds down into the valley. The best times to visit are during the spring (February to May) and autumn (October to November).
