Dehradun is governed locally by the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam Dehradun), which is headed by a Mayor and composed of elected corporators representing various wards across the city. The municipal body is responsible for civic infrastructure, sanitation, and local public services.
As the state capital, Dehradun is the political epicenter of Uttarakhand. It houses the Raj Bhavan (residence of the Governor), the Vidhan Sabha (State Legislative Assembly), and all major state government ministries and secretariats. The city falls under the Dehradun district administration, led by a District Magistrate, and is represented at the national level by the Tehri Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency.
