Overview

Dharmanagar is the administrative headquarters of the North Tripura district and stands as the second-largest urban local body in the state of Tripura, after the capital city of Agartala. Nestled in the northeastern part of the state near the border with Assam, it acts as a critical commercial and transit hub, effectively serving as the gateway to Tripura from the rest of India.

The city is celebrated for its rich cultural heritage, exceptionally high literacy rates, and scenic surroundings dotted with historic tea estates and the gentle flow of the Juri River. Historically, Dharmanagar has been an essential center for trade, connecting the remote northeastern corners of India with broader national markets. Today, it is recognized for its peaceful community life, educational institutions, and steady urban development, retaining its historic charm while embracing modern infrastructure.
