The Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport is the second busiest in Northeast India, offering daily direct flights to Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, and Bangalore, with a modern terminal recently inaugurated to handle international traffic.
The Agartala Railway Station connects the city to the national railway grid, operating major trains like the Rajdhani Express and Tripura Sundari Express. A highly anticipated international rail link connecting Agartala to Akhaura in Bangladesh is nearing completion, which will drastically cut travel time to Kolkata.
National Highway 8 (NH-8) is the primary road lifeline connecting Agartala to the rest of India via Assam. Within the city, public transit relies heavily on auto-rickshaws and battery-operated e-rickshaws, locally known as "Tom-Toms," which provide affordable, eco-friendly last-mile connectivity. City bus services are also operational but less dominant than the paratransit options.
