Government

The civic administration of the city is managed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), which is the oldest municipal body in Northeast India, having been established in 1871. The AMC is headed by a Mayor and is responsible for urban planning, water supply, waste management, public health, and infrastructure maintenance across its wards.

As the capital of Tripura, Agartala is also the seat of the state government. The city is home to the Tripura Legislative Assembly, the State Secretariat (Capital Complex), and the Tripura High Court. Agartala falls under the Tripura West Lok Sabha constituency, which elects a representative to the national parliament in New Delhi. The city operates under the jurisdiction of the Tripura Police, ensuring law and order.
