Namchi serves as the administrative headquarters of the newly reorganized Namchi District (previously known as South Sikkim District). The district administration is headed by a District Collector (DC) who oversees law and order, revenue, and local development.
Civic administration within the city limits is managed by the Namchi Municipal Council. The council is responsible for urban planning, sanitation, waste management, and the maintenance of civic amenities. Under the Smart City initiative, the municipal government has focused heavily on upgrading public spaces, installing LED street lighting, and improving solid waste management systems. Politically, the city falls under the Namchi-Singhithang assembly constituency in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly.
