The civic administration of the city is managed by the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC). In 2020, due to its massive expansion and to improve administrative efficiency, the JMC was bifurcated into two separate bodies: the Jaipur Heritage Municipal Corporation (overseeing the historic walled city and older areas) and the Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation (overseeing the newer, expansive urban sprawl). Each corporation is headed by an elected Mayor.
As the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur is the seat of the state government. It houses the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) and the Secretariat, where the Chief Minister and state cabinet operate. The city is also home to the principal bench of the Rajasthan High Court. Jaipur is represented in the national parliament by two Lok Sabha constituencies: Jaipur and Jaipur Rural.
