Mahe is situated on the Malabar Coast of the Arabian Sea in southwestern India. As a tiny enclave, it is completely landlocked by the state of Kerala on three sides (specifically bordered by the Kozhikode and Kannur districts) and faces the Arabian Sea to the west.
The defining geographical feature of the district is the Mayyazhi River (Mahe River), which meanders through the territory before emptying into the sea. The coastal environment ensures a lush, tropical landscape characterized by dense palm groves and coastal flora. Despite its small size, Mahe encompasses the main town area and several small detached enclaves just inland, such as Palloor and Pandakkal.
