Internal transportation in Auroville is heavily reliant on two-wheelers. Bicycles, electric cycles (e-bikes), and petrol-powered mopeds are the primary modes of transport. Auroville actively encourages a shift towards electric mobility to reduce noise and air pollution.
The township's internal road network mostly consists of unpaved, red-dirt roads and narrow cycle paths, shaded by the forest canopy, though the main "Crown Road" is undergoing paving. There is no formal public transit system within the township, though a community-run shuttle connects Auroville to neighboring Puducherry. The nearest major domestic airport is in Puducherry, while the closest major international airport is in Chennai.
