Government

Auroville's governance structure is unique, operating under the Auroville Foundation Act of 1988 passed by the Indian Parliament. The administration consists of three primary bodies:

1. **The Governing Board:** Comprising eminent individuals appointed by the Government of India, responsible for the overarching administration and legal ownership of Auroville's assets. 2. **The International Advisory Council:** A body of international experts appointed by the Indian Government to advise the Governing Board and ensure Auroville stays true to its founding ideals. 3. **The Residents' Assembly:** Composed of all confirmed residents over the age of 18. This democratic body organizes itself through various working groups, such as the Working Committee, Auroville Council, and Town Development Council, handling day-to-day community management, admission, and urban planning.
