Agriculture

While Bhubaneswar itself is a heavily urbanized municipality with virtually no commercial agriculture within the city limits, it acts as a primary market and distribution hub for the agrarian hinterlands of coastal Odisha.

The surrounding rural districts of Khordha and Cuttack are deeply agricultural, cultivating paddy (rice) as the dominant crop, alongside pulses, oilseeds, and vegetables. Additionally, local fish markets are heavily supplied by nearby freshwater aquaculture and coastal fisheries. Within the city, there is a growing trend of urban gardening and organic terrace farming promoted by environmentally conscious residents.
