Tuensang is connected to the rest of Nagaland primarily by road. National Highway 202 links the city to Mokokchung and the state capital, Kohima.
Public transportation consists of Nagaland State Transport (NST) buses and a robust network of private shared taxis (typically Tata Sumos), which are the most popular way to travel between districts. Intra-city transport is handled by auto-rickshaws and local taxis. The mountainous terrain and heavy monsoon rains frequently damage the roads, making travel times long and sometimes unpredictable. There are no direct rail or commercial flight connections in Tuensang; the nearest railway station and major airport are located in Dimapur, a grueling drive away. A state-subsidized helicopter service (Pawan Hans) occasionally operates flights for medical emergencies and rapid transit.
