Housing in Tuensang is a blend of modern construction and traditional Naga architecture. In the commercial center and newer neighborhoods, multistory Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) structures with corrugated tin roofs (vital for heavy monsoon rains) are standard.
In the surrounding village areas and older parts of town, one can still find semi-concrete or traditional homes built using timber, bamboo, and thatch. The real estate market is highly localized; land ownership is governed by Naga customary laws under Article 371A of the Indian Constitution, meaning land cannot easily be sold to non-indigenous individuals. Consequently, the rental market caters primarily to government employees, teachers, and migrant workers from other parts of the state.
