Transportation

Transportation in Phek is entirely road-dependent due to its mountainous terrain.

* **Roads and Highways:** The town is connected to the state capital, Kohima (about 145 km away), via National Highway 29 and NH-702A. While highways exist, road conditions can fluctuate wildly, especially during the monsoon season due to landslides. * **Public Transit:** The Nagaland State Transport (NST) operates regular bus services connecting Phek to Kohima, Dimapur, and neighboring districts. Shared taxis (commonly Tata Sumos) are the most popular and frequent mode of inter-city and inter-village transport. * **Air & Rail:** There is no airport or railway station in Phek. The nearest railhead and commercial airport are in Dimapur, approximately 200 km away. * **Local Transit:** Walking is common within the town due to its compact but steep nature. Local taxis are available for hire.
