Transportation in and out of Mon is strictly road-based, and navigating the terrain can be challenging. The town is connected to the neighboring state of Assam via the Sonari and Simulguri routes, which serve as the primary lifelines for goods and services.
Public transit consists largely of state-run buses and private shared taxis (typically Tata Sumos), which are the most popular way to travel between Mon, Kohima, Dimapur, and Assam. The roads are prone to landslides and degradation during the intense monsoon season. The nearest railway station is at Bhojo in Assam (about 70 km away), and the nearest major airports are in Jorhat and Dibrugarh, Assam. A local helipad facilitates emergency medical evacuations and state VIP transport.
