Mokokchung features a sub-tropical to temperate climate (Köppen climate classification Cwa/Cwb), benefiting from its higher elevation which keeps it relatively cooler than the neighboring plains.
Summers (May to August) are moderately warm with temperatures typically ranging between 15°C and 28°C. This period coincides with the southwest monsoon, bringing heavy and sustained rainfall that nourishes the lush landscape but can occasionally trigger localized landslides. Winters (November to February) are dry, crisp, and cool, with temperatures dropping to between 7°C and 15°C. Snowfall is practically non-existent, though frost is common in the deeper valleys. The best time to visit is between October and May, when the weather is clear, dry, and pleasantly cool.
