Geography

Mokokchung is located in the northern part of Nagaland, characterized by undulating terrain, dense sub-tropical forests, and deep valleys. The city sits on a prominent ridge, offering sweeping views of the surrounding hills and, on clear days, parts of the Assam plains to the west.

The physical geography is dominated by the Naga Hills, an eastern extension of the sub-Himalayan mountain system. The region is dotted with seasonal and perennial streams that flow into larger rivers such as the Milak and the Dikhu, which act as vital natural resources for the district. The surrounding hills are rich in biodiversity, featuring varieties of bamboo, timber, and medicinal plants, alongside diverse avian and mammalian life.
