Kiphire is governed at the municipal level by the Kiphire Town Council, which is responsible for local civic amenities, sanitation, and urban planning.
As a district headquarters, the town hosts the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), an IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer who oversees law and order, land revenue, and the implementation of state and central government schemes across the entire Kiphire district. The town is also home to the Superintendent of Police (SP) office and various state departmental offices.
Politically, the district is divided into legislative assembly constituencies (such as Seyochung Sitimi and Pungro Kiphire) that elect representatives to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Kiphire falls under the single Nagaland parliamentary constituency for the Lok Sabha. Public services are steadily improving, heavily supported by special funding from the central government's Aspirational Districts Program aimed at bridging development gaps in remote areas.
