Located in eastern Nagaland, Kiphire sits within a spectacularly rugged and mountainous region that shares an international border with Myanmar to the east. The town itself is nestled in the hills at an elevation of approximately 896 meters, though the surrounding district terrain varies wildly, plunging into deep river gorges and rising to towering mountain peaks.
The region is characterized by dense sub-tropical and temperate forests, which are home to a rich array of biodiversity, including rare orchids, tragopans, and various species of rhododendrons. The physical geography is dominated by two major rivers, the Zungki and the Tizu, which carve their way through the steep hillsides. The landscape is intensely green, marked by traditional terrace farming and shifting cultivation (Jhum) scars that highlight the agrarian lifestyle of the local population.
Kiphire is famous for its proximity to Mount Saramati, located slightly further east near the Myanmar border. The natural resources of the region include timber, minor forest produce, and a rich variety of indigenous flora and fauna, making it a rugged but immensely beautiful geographical zone.
