Agriculture in Kiphire is characterized by traditional shifting cultivation (Jhum) and terrace rice cultivation. The region is famously known as the "Land of Kholar" due to the extensive and high-quality cultivation of Kholar (kidney beans), which is a major cash crop and dietary staple.
Other significant crops include maize, millet, soybeans, and large cardamom. Horticulture is also gaining traction, with farmers cultivating apples, oranges, and the famous Naga King Chili (Bhut Jolokia). Because the use of chemical fertilizers is historically minimal, much of Kiphire’s agricultural produce is highly sought after as organic.
