Government

The civic administration of the city is managed by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), which is responsible for urban planning, sanitation, waste management, and local infrastructure maintenance.

The district at large is headed by a Deputy Commissioner (DC), an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who oversees law and order, revenue collection, and the implementation of state and central government schemes.

Politically, Dimapur is represented in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly through multiple constituencies (Dimapur I, II, and III). Uniquely, for decades, Dimapur was the only district in Nagaland exempt from the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system—a document required by non-locals to enter the state—due to its status as a commercial hub, though the state government has recently begun processes to extend ILP regulations to the district.
