Economy

Dimapur is the economic engine of Nagaland, generating a significant portion of the state's revenue. Its strategic location makes it the primary wholesale and retail market for both Nagaland and the neighboring hill districts of Manipur.

The city's economy is predominantly driven by trade, commerce, and transportation. Goods brought in via the railway network from mainland India are distributed from Dimapur to the rest of the region. The city hosts numerous markets, with the "Hong Kong Market" being particularly famous for imported goods, electronics, and apparel.

Real estate and construction are rapidly growing sectors due to constant migration into the city. While large-scale heavy industry is absent, small to medium-scale enterprises in food processing, timber, and handicrafts contribute substantially to the local economy.
