Agriculture

While the city proper is highly urbanized, the surrounding rural areas of the Dimapur district are agriculturally rich, benefiting from the fertile alluvial soil of the plains.

Major crops include rice, maize, and mustard. Dimapur is particularly known for its horticulture; the region produces high-quality pineapples, bananas, and oranges. The Nagaland government has actively promoted organic farming in the district. Animal husbandry, including piggery and poultry, is a crucial component of the agricultural economy, meeting the high local demand for meat. The nearby Medziphema area also hosts the School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD).
