The Nagaland government has actively promoted organic farming in the district. Animal husbandry, including piggery and poultry, is a crucial component of the agricultural economy, meeting the high local demand for meat. The nearby Medziphema area also hosts the School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD).
