Government

As a district headquarters, Serchhip is administered by a Deputy Commissioner (DC), a state government appointee who oversees law and order, revenue, and general administration. Local civic matters within the town are managed by Village and Town Councils, which operate on democratic principles and handle grassroots governance, sanitation, and community welfare.

Serchhip is also an important political constituency in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly. The local political culture is highly active, with non-governmental organizations like the Young Mizo Association (YMA) playing a massive role in civil society. The YMA often works in tandem with the government to enforce social welfare initiatives, preserve culture, and manage local disaster response.
