Transportation in Lawngtlai is primarily road-based. National Highway 54 (NH-54) connects the town to Aizawl, the state capital, approximately 296 kilometers away. A major new arterial road is being developed under the Kaladan Project to connect Lawngtlai to the Zorinpui border crossing with Myanmar.
Within the town, mobility relies on maxi-cabs (shared taxis), auto-rickshaws, and two-wheelers, which are best suited for the steep, narrow roads. There is no railway station or commercial airport in Lawngtlai; the nearest airport is Lengpui Airport near Aizawl, and the nearest railhead is in Bairabi. For faster travel, the state government operates a subsidized Pawan Hans helicopter service connecting Lawngtlai to Aizawl.
