Transportation

* **Roads:** National Highway 306 (formerly NH 54) is the lifeline of Kolasib, connecting it south to Aizawl (approx. 83 km away) and north to Silchar, Assam. * **Public Transit:** Local transport relies heavily on auto-rickshaws, shared taxis, and maxi-cabs (Sumos). Private bus operators run daily services to Aizawl, Guwahati, and Shillong. * **Rail:** The nearest railway station is in Bairabi (about 35 km from Kolasib town), which is the only railhead in Mizoram, connecting the state to the massive Indian Railway network via Assam. * **Air:** The closest airport is Lengpui Airport (near Aizawl), approximately a 2.5 to 3-hour drive away, offering flights to Kolkata, Guwahati, and Delhi. Silchar Airport in Assam is an alternative. * **Active Transit:** Due to the steep terrain, walking is common within specific Vengs, but bicycles are rarely used for daily commuting.
