Government

Khawzawl is governed under the administrative framework of the state of Mizoram. As a district headquarters, the local administration is headed by a Deputy Commissioner (DC), who oversees law and order, land revenue, and developmental programs within the district.

At the grassroots level, local governance is managed by Village Councils (equivalent to Gram Panchayats in other parts of India). These councils handle minor disputes, local infrastructure maintenance, and community welfare programs. Khawzawl falls under a designated constituency for the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, electing a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) to represent the town and surrounding villages in Aizawl. Public services, including policing and district courts, have been progressively established since the district's inception in 2019.
