Transportation in Hnahthial is heavily reliant on the road network. The town is connected to the state capital, Aizawl, and other major hubs like Lunglei via National Highway 54 (now part of the renumbered NH network).
Public transit primarily consists of shared maxicabs (locally called Sumos) and private bus services, which are the lifelines for inter-city and inter-village travel across Mizoram's winding roads. Within the town, walking is common due to the compact, albeit steep, nature of the neighborhoods, while two-wheelers and small cars are preferred for personal transport. The nearest airport is Lengpui Airport in Aizawl, and the nearest major railway station is in Bairabi or Silchar (Assam).
