Transportation

Due to its rugged terrain, transportation in Champhai is almost entirely road-based. The town is connected to the state capital, Aizawl (approximately 192 km away), by National Highway 54 (often referred to as part of the NH-2 network extension). The journey by road takes several hours via bus or shared taxis (commonly referred to as 'Sumos'), which are the lifeline of public transport in Mizoram.

Within the town, two-wheelers and light motor vehicles are the primary modes of transport due to the narrow, winding streets. There is no railway station or commercial airport in Champhai; the nearest airport is Lengpui Airport in Aizawl. For quicker, albeit limited, connectivity, the state government occasionally operates a Pawan Hans helicopter service between Aizawl and Champhai.
