Civic administration in the city is managed by the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC), which was established in 2010. The AMC oversees city planning, sanitation, local infrastructure, and public health, and is headed by a Mayor.
As the capital of Mizoram, Aizawl is also the seat of the state government. It houses the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, the State Secretariat, and the Raj Bhavan (Governor's Residence). At the grassroots level, Aizawl’s governance is uniquely supported by Local Councils and the highly influential Young Mizo Association (YMA), a non-governmental organization that plays a critical role in social welfare, community policing, and civic discipline.
