Tura relies entirely on road transport, as the rugged terrain of the Garo Hills makes rail and air infrastructure challenging. The city is connected to the rest of the country primarily via National Highway 217 (formerly NH 51), which links Tura to the plains of Assam and the major regional hub of Guwahati (approximately 220 km away).
Public transit within the city consists largely of shared auto-rickshaws and local taxis, which are the lifelines for daily commuters. For inter-city travel, shared multi-utility vehicles (locally called "Sumos") and buses operated by the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) and private operators run daily to Shillong, Guwahati, and neighboring district headquarters.
The nearest active commercial railway station and major airport are in Guwahati, Assam. A small airport nearby at Baljek was inaugurated but currently does not host regular commercial flights. A government-subsidized helicopter service (operated by Pawan Hans) occasionally connects Tura to Shillong and Guwahati.
