While agriculture is not practiced heavily within the municipal limits of Tura, the city is the central node for the agricultural output of the West Garo Hills. The surrounding rural areas traditionally practiced *Jhum* (shifting) cultivation, but there has been a massive and successful shift toward horticulture and plantation crops.
Major agricultural products traded in Tura include arecanut (betel nut), which is a vital cash crop for the region, along with cashew nuts, black pepper, ginger, and rubber. The region also produces high-quality citrus fruits, bananas, and pineapples. Organic farming is highly prevalent by default, as traditional farming practices rarely rely on chemical fertilizers.
