Nongpoh's entire transportation ecosystem revolves around National Highway 6 (Asian Highway 1), which bisects the town. This four-lane highway is the primary lifeline for both passengers and freight moving into Meghalaya, Tripura, and parts of Assam.
Public transit is highly dependent on shared yellow-and-black taxis, maxi-cabs (Sumos), and private intercity buses that run constantly between Guwahati and Shillong. There is no local bus or metro system; intra-town travel is mostly done on foot, by auto-rickshaws, or by local taxis.
The town has no railway station or airport. The nearest broad-gauge railway station is in Guwahati (approx. 50 km away), and the nearest commercial airport is Shillong Airport in Umroi (approx. 30 km away), with Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati acting as the primary aviation hub for the region.
