Topography

The topography of Nongpoh features a series of undulating hills, steep ridges, and deep valleys. Unlike Shillong, which sits at an elevation of roughly 1,500 meters, Nongpoh is situated at a much lower altitude of approximately 485 meters (1,591 feet).

This lower elevation means the terrain is less rugged than the upper Khasi hills, featuring more gradual slopes that are highly suitable for terrace farming and tropical fruit orchards. The town itself is built along the slopes and valleys straddling the national highway, with residential and administrative areas terraced into the hillsides.
