Geography

Nongpoh is located in the northern part of Meghalaya, nestled in the lower foothills of the Khasi Hills range. Geographically, it sits in a transition zone between the flat, expansive Brahmaputra River valley of Assam to the north and the high-altitude Shillong Plateau to the south.

The area is characterized by lush green, rolling landscapes blanketed with subtropical forests and interspersed with agricultural clearings. Because of its location on the windward side of the hills, the region receives copious amounts of rainfall, feeding numerous small rivers and streams that cut through the valleys. The soil is predominantly laterite and rich in organic matter, which supports the dense vegetation and robust agricultural output of the area.
