Geography

Jowai is situated on a picturesque plateau in the eastern part of Meghalaya. A defining geographical feature of the city is the Myntdu River, which wraps around the settlement on three sides, creating a natural moat. The river is highly revered by the locals, often referred to affectionately as the 'Guardian Angel' of Jowai.

The physical geography of the area is dominated by steep undulating hills, deep gorges, and subtropical pine forests. The region is rich in mineral resources, particularly limestone and coal, which are prominent in the broader Jaintia Hills landscape. The city's high elevation provides panoramic views of the surrounding green valleys and distant mountain ridges.
