The primary lifeline is National Highway 202 (NH-202), which connects Ukhrul to the state capital, Imphal (about 80 kilometers away). The journey takes approximately 3 to 4 hours by road.
Public transportation consists of private bus services, shared taxis (locally known as 'Wingers' or 'Cruisers'), and auto-rickshaws for intra-city transit. The nearest airport is the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal, and the nearest major railway station is currently being developed in the Imphal valley. Walking is a common mode of transit within the town due to the compact, albeit hilly, nature of the neighborhoods.
