Geography

Thoubal is located roughly 22 kilometers south of Imphal, situated in the fertile eastern plains of the Imphal Valley. The physical geography of the city is dominated by the Thoubal River, which originates in the eastern hills and flows gracefully through the city before eventually joining the Imphal River.

The region is characterized by lush alluvial plains, making it one of the most productive agricultural belts in Manipur. Thoubal is also famous for its wetlands and lakes, most notably Waithou Pat, Ikop Pat, and Lousi Pat, which play a crucial role in local ecology and the local fishing economy. The surrounding landscape is primarily agrarian, punctuated by small, forested hillocks.
