Economy

Bhopal's economy is a dynamic mix of traditional manufacturing, modern services, public sector administration, and education. As the state capital, the government is one of the largest employers, providing substantial economic stability.

The city is historically anchored by heavy engineering and manufacturing, most notably the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) plant, which has a sprawling township of its own. In recent years, the economy has diversified significantly. IT parks are emerging, real estate development is booming on the city's periphery, and the hospitality and retail sectors are expanding to serve a growing upper-middle class.

Bhopal is also a vital regional commercial center, acting as a trading hub for the agricultural produce of the surrounding Malwa and Narmadapuram regions.
