Geography

Agatti is located about 459 kilometers (285 miles) off the western coast of Kochi, Kerala, nestled in the vast expanse of the Arabian Sea. It is a coral atoll stretching approximately 7.6 kilometers in length, but it is incredibly narrow, with its width barely exceeding 1,000 meters at its widest point.

The island's physical geography is defined by a massive, stunningly vibrant lagoon that borders its western shore, created by a protective coral reef that acts as a natural breakwater. This reef system harbors immense marine biodiversity, including sea turtles, vivid tropical fish, and delicate coral formations. Because it is a coral island, Agatti lacks freshwater lakes or rivers; instead, it relies on a delicate groundwater lens that floats above the denser seawater beneath the porous coral sand.
