Tso Moriri experiences an extreme alpine/tundra climate (Köppen climate classification: ET). The weather is notoriously harsh and unforgiving for much of the year.
* **Winter (November to April):** Temperatures plummet drastically, often reaching between -20°C and -30°C (-4°F to -22°F). The lake freezes over completely with ice thick enough to walk on, and the region experiences heavy snowfall, frequently cutting off road access. * **Summer (May to September):** This is the most hospitable time and the primary tourist season. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, averaging between 10°C and 20°C (50°F to 68°F), but night temperatures can still drop to near freezing. * **Rainfall:** The region falls in a rain shadow and receives very little precipitation, mostly in the form of winter snow.
The best time to visit is from June to early September, when the roads are clear of snow and the weather is relatively mild.
