Topography

The topography of the Tso Moriri region is characterized by extreme high-altitude elevation and dramatic mountainous terrain. The lowest point of the immediate region is the lake bed itself, which reaches a maximum depth of approximately 40 meters (130 feet).

The lake is nestled in an expansive valley surrounded by rugged, barren hills that rise sharply into towering, glaciated peaks. The northern and southern tips of the lake transition into marshy wetlands and seasonal floodplains formed by glacial streams. There are no forests or significant vegetation cover, leaving the exposed rock and scree slopes to dominate the visual landscape.
