Recreation at Tso Moriri centers around experiencing the rugged outdoors. Popular activities include high-altitude trekking (such as the Rumtse to Tso Moriri trek), birdwatching, and nature photography. Camping is popular, though it is strictly restricted to designated areas set back from the lake's banks to protect the wetland. Because the lake is considered sacred and is a protected reserve, swimming, boating, and fishing are strictly prohibited.
